Emmaus Village Carlton ran home to glory in this year’s Harrold Pit Run, thanks to the fancy footwork of our Chief Executive, Donna-Louise, and Bistro Supervisor Adam Hancock.

Donna-Louise and Adam put their best feet forward on Saturday (27 April), completing the three-mile (just under 5km) race around the village of Harrold and the lakes in the country park.

The event encompasses four races from a short children’s race up to the fully marshalled three-mile race. Fun-runners, fancy-dressers and serious PB (Personal Best) runners alike all mix in at the start line in front of The Village Green.

Donna-Louise said: “This is the first time I’ve taken part in the Pit Run and it’s such a great community event. The race takes in the entire village, as well as the scenic lakes in the park, so it’s a lovely backdrop.

“We also had a stand at the event and it was nice to say hello to visitors and take the opportunity to raise awareness of our charity.”

Adam said: “It was a really good day running on behalf of Emmaus. I grew up in Harrold and ran in the juniors’ event a few times during those years, so it was nice to come back for a good cause and run the full track for the first time.”

Harrold Centre, which hosts the annual Pit Run, is a registered charity which benefits the residents of Harrold, Carlton and Odell. The Pit Run has been running since 1983 with only two missed because of covid, and a shortened course in 1998 due to severe flooding.

The bustling atmosphere of stalls, bar, band and runners on The Green are a great attraction for villagers and visitors alike and much appreciated as the social event of the year. Runners used to compete for the medals and the greatest sponsorship money but now donation is more common.
