Why are you running for Emmaus? I’m running for Emmaus because I have seen the impact it has on peoples’ lives. The wonderful thing about Emmaus is the community life and solidarity which helps folk overcome the isolation and loneliness caused by homelessness. I first became aware of Emmaus in 2009 and became a trustee of Emmaus Norfolk & Waveney which was an amazing experience. Seeing the thriving community today and knowing the difference it makes is a joy.
What are you most looking forward to about running the marathon? I’ve not run a marathon before but am looking forward to the challenge. I don’t know what it’s like to experience homelessness but I reckon running a marathon is easier. Once I’ve finished I’ll have a nice cup of tea and a packet of peanuts.
Why are you running for Emmaus? Have had the pleasure of visiting one of Emmaus’ sites in Hinckley with fellow graduates at Cadent and was very impressed with what they are doing for people who have become homeless/lost their way a bit in life. Very worthwhile cause and am delighted to be running for them.
What are you most looking forward to about running the marathon? Crossing the finish line! In all seriousness, looking forward to the day itself and to see the sights of London in a slightly different way to normal.
Have you done a marathon before? No – call it a quarter-life crisis if you like.
What will keep you going to the finish line? I’m sure the crowds and general atmosphere will be enough but also the feeling of crossing the line is something that will make the last few months of training all worth it.
Why are you running for Emmaus? I’m running for Emmaus because I think the work they do towards tackling homelessness is amazing and the support in helping provide people with a home and meaningful work, especially in times like now where the cost of living is rising, is so uplifting.
Have you done a marathon before? This is my first marathon and I’m so excited to be running it in London, and experience the atmosphere! My marathon training is going well. I’ve taken part in a half marathon event, which was great to experience. I have a ‘marathon beats’ playlist that keeps me going!
What will keep you going to the finish line? I think the main thing that’ll keep me going during the marathon will be the crowds!
What will you do once you’ve completed the marathon? My ‘after marathon plan’ will be to head for food and sleep!
Why are you running for Emmaus? Emmaus are Cadent’s new charity partner and as charity lead for our graduate cohort I felt this would be an excellent opportunity to support the charities initiatives by raising money and awareness for a great cause.
What are you most looking forward to about running the marathon? Really looking forward to experiencing the whole spectacle of the London Marathon. I have never ran a competitive race before so think having this iconic event to be my first is really exciting.
And what will keep you going to the finish line ? Main driver is trying to finish in a relatively good time and haven’t really thought about what I’ll do after it’s finished. In the immediate will probably want to fuel up and stretch so I can still walk the next day and in longer term will continue to keep getting out running, though a lot more relaxed, so I can beat my time next year!
Tell us a little bit about yourself? Hi I’m Cathy and I live in Yorkshire. I have run for many years, done a few half marathons but never run a marathon before. I came to watch the event last year and it just sowed a little seed that said – you could do this…
Why are you running for Emmaus? So, I started to look for a charity that would resonate with me. I chose Emmaus because I have worked with vulnerable people for many years and seen first hand the amazing work that Emmaus provides. When Emmaus offered me a place I was delighted – and nervous!
And what will keep you going to the finish line? I have dedicated each mile to someone special as part of my fundraising. I will dedicate each mile to them – and most of all mile 26 for my beautiful 5 month old grandson, Theo.
What will I do after the marathon? Probably celebrate with my family and enter the ballot for next year!
Tell us a little bit about yourself? Tall ish, friendly IT guy. Enjoys taking part and being outdoors, keen motivator and learner of new things.
Why are you running for Emmaus? I have links to people who work with the charity so know first hand about the wonderful life changing work that Emmaus UK does to support people out of homelessness.
What are you most looking forward to about running the marathon? This will be my second London Marathon, my first was 12 years ago, so I had mostly forgotten how much training is required. Now looking forward to the day and the encouragement from the crowds. With a bit of luck I might be able to finish a little bit quicker than last time.
What will I do after the marathon? Try and recover so I can run a half marathon the weekend after. eek
Good luck to all our runners!
