Emmaus Suffolk offers rehabilitation through meaningful activity for homeless, socially-isolated and long term unemployed people. The organisation provides education, training (including employment training) and work opportunities, and brings about the relief of poverty and resulting distress by helping people develop their skills in order to gain future employment, and maintain their sense of self-worth and dignity.

Emmaus Suffolk is the new name for Emmaus Ipswich. The charity in the past 18 months has opened 2 retail outlets in Ipswich and employed 8 individuals. Five of which were former non-residential companions volunteering within the outlets. Working with over 30 partner organisations in the locality, all who support the most vulnerable in the area.  Emmaus Suffolk has developed a new model of service delivery for Non-Residential Companions supporting the remit of the Emmaus UK Strategic Plan.

Part of the speed of this success can without doubt be attributed to the support from Emmaus UK, through advice, support and judicious grant and loan funding.  Being conscious of the changing financial and political climate Emmaus Suffolk has endeavoured to free themselves from the financial risks of reliance on benefits and have concentrated on offering meaningful activities to the most vulnerable in Ipswich, and moving toward countywide delivery. This has enabled us to offer opportunities to 80 individuals since opening, of which we are currently supporting 49 NRC’s and 31 have moved on.  Of which 3 entered into education/training and 16 into employment.
