We’re so pleased to share the news that our Wellbeing hubs will be returning to Felixstowe this Summer!

We need some helping hands to transform an empty building into a welcoming place supporting community wellbeing.

Our charity is planning to convert the former Chuffers Bar on Great Eastern Square, right next door to our shop, into a creative theraputic space for local people. After we closed our hub at Felixstowe Library late last year, we’ve wanted to return to help empower local people and give them a safe space.

The site was formerly a bar and will now become a drop-in wellbeing space where guests can meet other local people in the community, enjoy arts and craft activities, and receive mental health support from the wellbeing team. The new space will also be available for other community groups to use free of charge.

Emmaus is appealing for volunteers to help get the hub open and transform the venue from a bar to a welcoming friendly community space. Volunteers can make a big difference by donating a few hours of their time to clear and clean the building ready for the hub to open later this summer.

Claire Staddon, our CEO, said: “We know there is a need in Felixstowe for wellbeing support and since our last hub, held at Felixstowe Library, shut, the demand has increased. We would love this new workshop to feel part of the community from the very beginning. We hope that residents volunteer their time to help us improve the area and the lives of local people.”

The charity currently has five sites across Ipswich and Felixstowe, where it hosts wellbeing hubs, sells pre-loved fashion & furniture, and serves affordable healthy meals from community café, The Royal Oak.

We plan to open the new hub later this summer, with weekly drop-in sessions every Wednesday 11 am – 2 pm. More information about the opening of the site will be shared on the our social media channels.
