We are very pleased to say that we have just launched a new drop-in group in Felixstowe with the aim of reducing social isolation and exclusion in the town.  We already run drop-in session in Ipswich which have been successful in engaging with people in the community who may otherwise be isolated or experiencing loneliness.

The new group in Felixstowe is free to attend and will run from the Emmaus shop in Great Eastern Square on Mondays and Tuesdays.  Due to current Covid-19 restrictions attendance is by appointment only. Please call Emma on 07393 583914 or email [email protected] to let us know you are attending.

Guests to the group can simply enjoy a cup of tea and a chat with fellow visitors or they can join in with some of the craft and upcycling activities offered.

Members of our team will be on hand to offer support and advice to attendees of the group, including signposting to other organisations across Suffolk.

Providing access to meaningful work opportunities is a key part of the Emmaus model so there will be the chance for group attendees to volunteer within our shop if they want to, although there is no pressure to do so. Tasks includes sorting donations, upcycling and cleaning items and serving customers. These activities not only help to develop new skills but also boost the confidence and self-esteem of those volunteering.

Talking about the new group, Claire Staddon, Chief Executive of Emmaus Suffolk, said:

“We are so excited to be launching a group in Felixstowe, especially at this time when social isolation is increasing as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. We’ve been working with people in Suffolk for the past four years and know how important it is that residents have somewhere they can visit and connect with other people. Our experience has shown us that this very often helps to reduce the negative effects of social exclusion, including loneliness, mental health issues and addiction.

“If you live in Felixstowe or surrounding area and are feeling a bit isolated or lonely, please call Emma on 07393 583914 or email [email protected] We would love to welcome you in for a cup of tea and a chat.”
