As we near the end of the year, it’s a time to reflect on all we’ve achieved at Emmaus Suffolk.

We’re incredibly proud of our work to combat poverty, isolation, loneliness and homelessness. On our social media accounts, we’ll be sharing 12 days of key highlights that showcase the impact of the work we do. These figures represent real change and empowerment happening across our hubs and support services.

Wellbeing Hubs

Our hubs are central to the work that we do, with hubs available throughout the week in Ipswich & Felixstowe, we can support people in a welcoming and warm environment.

We saw a 25% increase in the number of individuals we worked with this year, rising from 260 to 326 people. Similarly, separate attendances to our community hubs increased by 40% to 5415. Our wellbeing team supported 279 wellbeing issues with 1907 interventions. We also continued to see an increased demand for our support with 356 new people attending our hubs or enquiring about supported housing.

Food Poverty

At the Royal Oak, our mission is to offer affordable and healthy meals for everyone to enjoy. Our café is a community space where we host hubs and local groups. This year we served up 828 hot nutritional One Pot Wonder meals for £3.50 and a further 4742 main meals served at a subsidised price.

Training & Accommodation

Our volunteer roles provide work opportunities and experience to those who have been unemployed for a long time, those who are socially isolated and people who are homeless or at risk of being so. Since our opening in 2016, we have empowered 68 volunteers into work and 38 volunteers to move into further education.

Our companion flat & house provide a safe and comfortable home for people looking to rebuild their lives after homelessness or housing insecurity. Since 2016, 25 companions have lived in our supported accommodation.

Sustainability:

We continue to reduce unnecessary waste through our social enterprises. This year 1068 items of furniture – around 96.17 tonnes – were re-sold and diverted from landfill. At the Royal Oak, by working with local providers, we diverted 4.5 tonnes of food from being thrown away.
