Last Sunday at 7am sharp, our Companions — joined by two members of staff — set off from Penarth Harbour for a fishing trip with Escape Charter, led by the ever-welcoming skipper, Wayne.

We headed out towards the Breen coastline, kitted out in life jackets and ready for whatever the sea (and sky!) had in store. The morning brought heavy rain, wind, thunder, and lightning, but spirits stayed high — and by the afternoon, the skies cleared slightly, giving way to calmer waters and great fishing.

The catches of the day included blonde rays, eels, and dogfish, with plenty of excitement and laughter shared on deck. For many of our Companions, this was more than just a fishing trip — it was a chance to reconnect with nature, enjoy peaceful moments, and experience the therapeutic power of the sea.

Activities like these are a vital part of our work at Emmaus South Wales — helping to build confidence, reduce stress, and support positive mental health through shared experiences and new adventures.

Massive thanks to Wayne at Escape Charter for making this possible — and to our staff for supporting the journey every step of the way.
