Four companions at Emmaus South Wales are taking part in the Couch to 5K programme to challenge themselves, get fit, and raise money for the place they call home.
Companions Paul, Michelle, Shaun, and Angela are embarking on the challenge alongside our Chief Executive, Jemma Wray, and hope to raise £4,500 between them.
It costs Emmaus South Wales approximately £150 per week for each companion supported. Paul, Michelle, Shaun, and Angela hope meet their target and support the Emmaus South Wales community, helping their fellow companions as well as new companions joining the community.
Taking up running can seem like a scary prospect, especially if you feel out of shape or unfit. Couch to 5K is a 9-week programme to get anybody running from scratch. The companions taking part are all beginners and have received funding from Emmaus UK for running kit. They are now raring to go! They will be running three days per week and will be sharing progress updates.
Emmaus South Wales supports people who have been homeless or socially excluded by providing a home with no time limit, the opportunity to gain work experience in a social enterprise, daily support and funded training. Every companion has their own room and access to shared communal spaces. All living expenses are covered and each companion receives a weekly allowance on top of this. Emmaus South Wales creates a leaving fund for each companion so when they are ready to move on they will receive a lump sum to help them cover expenses. The Emmaus South Wales community is like a family. Companions look out for each other and regularly take part in group activities such as quiz nights, gardening, walks, and have created a companion book club.
All money raised will go towards supporting Emmaus South Wales companions. Any amount you can spare will be gratefully received by Paul, Michelle, Shaun and Angela.
