Second hand plates from our Cowbridge shop have been given a new lease of life by a local pub owner.
Jayne Wilkinson, who has owned the Horse and Groom pub on Cowbridge High Street for more than 25 years, has turned second hand items purchased in one of our shops into afternoon tea stands.
Jayne said: “After seeing the price of buying new cake stands to use for afternoon tea, I decided I would try and make my own. I knew Emmaus would have the plates I needed to create them, so I popped over the road to see what I could find.
“I bought a selection of china plates and also some sheets of slate. The people who run the Emmaus shop in Cowbridge are lovely. They’re always so friendly and chatty. It’s definitely the busiest shop in Cowbridge, there’s always people in there!”
Jayne then explained that the process of making the cake stands was simple… “I bought the metal centre pieces that you need to make the cake stands online. All I had to do was drill a hole in the centre of the plates and then assemble the pieces.”
As you can see, the finished cake stands look amazing. It is great to see quality second hand items being upcycled and re-purposed creating unique items at a fraction of the cost of buying new.
