Emmaus South Manchester is using Volunteers’ Week 2024 (3 – 10 June) to appeal for new volunteers to get involved.

We’re appealing for new volunteers to help within our Wythenshawe Emporium charity shop, to safety test electrical items, as a social media volunteer or as a van driver. All Emmaus volunteers contribute to our mission of working together to overcome homelessness and social exclusion

Jenny, one of our upcycling volunteers, said: “The one day a week that I volunteer gives some structure to my week and in addition, I meet nice people and do something useful. It’s also nice to meet people from outside the area where I live.

“I’ve introduced two new volunteers to Emmaus and would encourage others to get involved. For people thinking about volunteering, I’d say find something that you think you might be interested in and just go and give it a go.”

Emmaus South Manchester is currently raising the funds and support needed to open an Emmaus community to help people who experience homelessness. Emmaus communities provide a home and companionship for as long as someone needs it, as well as tailored support, training and work experience.

Celebrating our dedicated volunteers

2024 is the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week and Emmaus South Manchester is one of thousands of charities and voluntary organisations celebrating with their supporters. Volunteers’ Week is a chance to recognise, celebrate and thank the UK’s volunteers for all they contribute to local communities and society as a whole.

Gavin Bryson, Operations Supervisor at Emmaus South Manchester, said: “Without our dedicated local volunteers and trustees, our charity wouldn’t be able to function and grow. We’re incredibly grateful for the work they do and would encourage anyone interested in volunteering to visit our Emmaus South Manchester Emporium or check out our website for more information.”
