Emmaus South Manchester’s current van was donated to us by another Emmaus community. This old van is showing signs of its age and is regularly off the road, meaning we’re increasingly reliant on hiring vans.
Our charity’s van is an essential part of our current social enterprise operations, helping to raise the funds we need to achieve our charity’s goal. The majority of our income is generated in our social enterprise which sells donated furniture and household items.
Each week, our van collects donated items and delivers sold items to customers in the local area. Through our social enterprise activity, we’re helping to keep household items in use for longer, reducing waste to landfill. Without a reliable van, our social enterprise is unable to operate and our charity would be unable to grow.
A new or nearly new van will help us:
- Achieve our charity’s goal of opening a new Emmaus community
- Reduce emissions and our negative impact on the environment
- Avoid the costs of the proposed Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone.
This appeal has now closed as we have successfully achieved our fundraising target and have purchased a newer van.
