Emmaus South Manchester has benefited from a day of support from a team of Stagecoach Bus employees in the build-up to our Christmas Launch event.

On Wednesday 13 November, a team of six staff from the Stockport office of Stagecoach Bus volunteered at our Wythenshawe Emporium. The team worked alongside Emmaus staff and volunteers to transform our charity store in readiness for a Christmas Launch event which proved a hit with visitors and supporters.

Kathryn Greenlees, Senior Finance Business Partner at Stagecoach Bus, said: “We had a very festive and enjoyable day at Emmaus sorting donations and assembling over 30 Christmas trees in preparation for the event they were holding a few days later. We’re lucky that we get to take time out of our day jobs to volunteer and support local causes and it was an absolute pleasure help Gavin and the team.”

Emmaus South Manchester is raising the funds needed to open a new Emmaus community to support people who have experienced homelessness. Emmaus communities provide a home, tailored support, training and work opportunities to help people build their confidence, boost their skills and achieve their potential.

Founded in 1980, Stagecoach has established itself as the UK’s largest transport operator, with services connecting more than 100 major towns and cities in England, Scotland, and Wales. As part of a wider sustainability strategy, Stagecoach supports local charities in the communities their transport services operate in.

Greatly appreciated

Gavin Bryson, Operations Manager at Emmaus South Manchester, said: “The team from Stagecoach gifted us some much-needed help as we decked out our Emporium with a wide range of decorations, Christmas trees and festive items. Their efforts were greatly appreciated and our Christmas Launch charity event proved very successful, thanks in part to the help we received from the Stagecoach team.”

Proceeds from the Emmaus Emporium and Christmas Launch event go towards our aim of opening a new Emmaus community to support people who experience homelessness and poverty. Emmaus South Manchester champions reuse, repair and upcycling to save good items from going to waste whilst giving people the chance to save money and shop more sustainably.
