Emmaus South Manchester is seeking a new Retail Assistant to support our social enterprise and deliver great customer service within our Emporium charity store. This is an opportunity for you to join a local, independent and growing charity, making a positive impact in Wythenshawe and beyond.

Emmaus South Manchester is in the early years of an exciting start-up project, working to establish a residential community to support people who are homeless and those suffering deprivation and social exclusion in the local area. After a successful few years, the Emmaus South Manchester social enterprise is expanding rapidly and we now need a new Retail Assistant to work alongside our existing staff and volunteers.

Role outline

The core activity of our successful social enterprise is to sell donated furniture, clothing and household items in our retail Emporium. This is supported by a team of volunteers who work together to refurbish, upcycle and upholster high-quality items of furniture and upcycle and repurpose donated fabrics and textiles.

Our social enterprise is expanding rapidly and we now need a Retail Assistant to work with our Operations Manager and a team of dedicated volunteers to provide day-to-day support to the retail operation. The Retail Assistant will support the logistical operation and carry out shop administration including operating the checkout facility, card payments and cash handling. The role will also include the training and supervision of volunteers, providing retail support to help restock the shop floor regularly and ensure displays are well-organised and visually appealing.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly-motivated individual and will suit someone who has a real ‘can do’ attitude and enjoys working as part of a small team of staff, volunteers and trustees. The Retail Assistant is a full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week on a 12-month fixed-term contract. We can offer an immediate start to the successful applicant and a range of employee benefits.
