Emmaus South Manchester is using Trustees’ Week (4 – 8 November 2024) to thank trustees and appeal for two new trustees to join our charity.
Emmaus South Manchester currently has ten people who give their time and expertise as trustees. We are keen to add two more people to our board of trustees and appealing for people with finance and human resources (HR) experience.
We have developed a thriving social enterprise and working towards opening a new Emmaus community to support people who experience homelessness and poverty. Emmaus communities provide a home, tailored support, training and work opportunities to help people build their confidence, boost their skills and achieve their potential.
Frances Hirst, Chair at Emmaus South Manchester, said: “This is a very exciting time for our charity as we become more established and move closer to our goal of opening a new Emmaus community in Manchester. We are keen to welcome on board two new trustees to help our charity with good governance and to achieve the next stages of growth.
“I first became a charity trustee more than 20 years ago and it remains a rewarding part of my life. Becoming a trustee and working alongside others provides you with personal and professional development, as well as the satisfaction of supporting a cause you care about. I’d like to give my thanks to fellow Emmaus South Manchester trustees and encourage anyone who is interested in becoming a trustee to find out more about the roles on our website.”
Trustees’ Week is a national campaign to celebrate the achievements of nearly one million trustees across the UK. Trustees are the individuals who make strategic decisions on behalf of the charity and have general control and management of the administration of a charity.
The focus of Trustees’ Week 2024 is on trustee recruitment and retention. It’s no secret that trustee recruitment is difficult. According to the Charity Commission’s Breath of Fresh Air report, anywhere between one in three and one in two charities have a trustee vacancy.
Emmaus South Manchester is currently working to raise the funds, support and partnerships needed to develop and open a new residential community. Emmaus trustees give their time voluntarily and work together collectively to ensure our charity has a clear strategy, and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
