Emmaus South Manchester has purchased a new collection and delivery van thanks to public support and four charitable funders.

We launched an appeal in March to raise funds for a replacement van, essential to our social enterprise operations. In just over a month, Emmaus South Manchester raised more than £22k and we have now been able to purchase a newer, more reliable and energy efficient vehicle.

As well as public donations, we received a one-off capital grant from The Clothworkers’ Foundation, grants from the Manchester Guardian Society Charitable Trust and The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund, and a donation from Emmaus Mossley.

Frances Hirst, Chair of Emmaus South Manchester, said: “We were in desperate need of a new van because our old, unreliable and inefficient van was regularly off the road due to maintenance issues. Our new Emmaus van is a fantastic improvement over what we had – much cleaner, more reliable and energy efficient than our old van.

“I would like to thank everyone who donated funds to enable us to purchase our new van, including The Clothworkers’ Foundation, Manchester Guardian, The Duchy of Lancaster Benevolent Fund and Emmaus Mossley.”

Help towards our goal

The majority of our charity income is raised in the Emmaus South Manchester social enterprise which sells donated furniture and household items. The van is essential to our charity operations, collecting donations and delivering sold items to and from our Wythenshawe Emporium charity store.

Proceeds from the Emporium go towards our charity’s aim of opening an Emmaus community to support people who have experienced homelessness and those suffering social exclusion. Emmaus communities provide a home and companionship for as long as someone needs it, as well as support, training and meaningful work experience.
