The volunteer team at Emmaus South Manchester has become slightly famous for our bags for life and have been making them for a few years now.
Word has spread, so Emmaus North East, who were opening a new shop, got in touch to ask if we could make a batch of 100 bags to give them a kick start. We offered to make and send them free of charge to this Emmaus community, as an act of solidarity from one Emmaus to another.
We raided all our resources to find suitable weights of fabric and just got going, making them at Emmaus in Wythenshawe and taking them home to make. Four of us, myself, Christine, Linda and Minnie, all worked together to make the bags in time for their new shop opening. We did them in all different colours and patterns and I don’t think two were the same. Quite a few of them were upcycled out of pillowcases too.
The Emmaus North East team was delighted with the bags and sent us a lovely box of brownies to say thank you. They were gorgeous!
If anyone would like to purchase one of our handmade bags for life, we always have a good range on offer at our Emporium charity store in Wythenshawe.
