Tamaki joined the Emmaus SLC team in August 2020 as an Online Sales Assistant at our West Norwood branch. Tamaki said that she really enjoys her role since every day is like a treasure hunt.

Every day Tamaki looks around the shops in the hope of finding the treasures that fetch good prices online. There’s plenty up for grabs – furniture, fine china, bric-a-brac and plenty of vintage items waiting for you. It’s a fact that charity shops are hidden treasure houses for people that know how to shop them. Last month Tamaki spotted two hidden gems in our Boutique store. The first item was a 19th century French brass microscope by Jean Georges Hoffmann. The second item was a 9” radius brass sextant by Jesse Ramsden, one of the leading manufacturers of scientific instruments in the latter part of the eighteenth century.

These items both sold far exceeding what was expected: they made £9,375 for our charity at Roseberys’ Fine & Decorative auction. What a great finding indeed. Well done, Tamaki!

This wasn’t the first time that Tamaki spotted a gem in one of our shops. We spoke to Tamaki to find out how she came about her find, and this is what She said: “I knew there was something special about them, so I showed them to Frank, our Warehouse Operations Manager, and we went to Roseberys to ask for a valuation. They were surprised about the value of the items and happy to help us on this sale.”

You’ll never know what you can find looking around our shops – You too can spot a pre-loved vintage treasure!
