“It’s good to learn how Emmaus supports those going through tough times.”

On 26th September, we had a visit from Nationwide Building Society’s Intermediary Relationships team paying their first visit to an Emmaus community to do some volunteering.

After a talk about the work we do at Emmaus Lambeth and a tour of our community building and shops, some of the team went on to clean our kitchen while the others visited our basement to sort donations of goods.

It’s not the kind of work they’re used to but one volunteer, Tracey, told us that she thought it was a good team-building exercise. She went on to say, “It’s good to learn how Emmaus supports those going through tough times. We’ve met some lovely people, heard some lovely stories and feel that our visit has been really worthwhile.” The others agreed and added that they’d found the day really enjoyable.

We’re very grateful to them all – Tracey, Kerry, James, Jen, Cath, Nathan, Mel and Lee – for visiting us to hear how we’re supporting our companions and for contributing their time to help us out. Thanks also to Nationwide Building Society which gives its staff 2 days’ paid volunteering leave per annum.
