Sir Terry Waite has launched Emmaus UK’s annual Christmas Appeal, with a message that “everybody should have the chance to experience the joy and hope of Christmas with other people”.
In a special appeal to Emmaus supporters, he highlights the isolation felt by many people experiencing homelessness and how it “becomes even more stark” during the festive season.
Over 300,000 people in the UK will spend Christmas Day without a place to call home, many of them also facing loneliness and social exclusion.
That is where the 29 Emmaus communities across the country are here to help, offering a safe home and a fresh start to people with experience of homelessness.
Sir Terry Waite, President at Emmaus UK, said:
“For many Emmaus companions, their Emmaus community becomes their extended family. Others reconnect with their relatives and friends, thanks to the stability and opportunities they get whilst at Emmaus.
“Thanks to your donations, Emmaus communities across the UK can provide much more than a place to stay, but a community where they feel welcomed.”
Emmaus communities provide training, education and meaningful work experience, and support people to regain their independence.
Your support can help someone rediscover the joy of connection and belonging this Christmas, by securing them a place at an Emmaus community.
