Donate goods

Our charity shop relies on the generosity of the public. We depend on donations of good quality household items to keep our social enterprise running and generate income that directly supports our Companions.

We accept most household items including:

    • Furniture and soft furnishings (with fire labels)
    • Bric-a-brac and homeware
    • Electrical items
    • Clothing and accessories
    • Vinyl records and CDs
    • Books and vintage items

Items we cannot sell are either recycled or repurposed in our workshop, where Companions craft beautiful handmade products from reclaimed wood. Last year alone, we diverted over 170 tonnes of materials from landfill.

By donating your pre-loved items, you’re providing meaningful work for our Companions, helping them build confidence and skills whilst contributing to a more sustainable Sheffield. Find out more about donating your preloved items.

Donate money

Whether you are giving a one-off gift, or setting up a regular payment, Thank You!

Donations can be made using the Donate Now button at the top of the page, or by visiting our JustGiving page. Not matter the value, all donations make a huge difference to the lives we support.

If you are a taxpayer, by choosing to Gift Aid your donation, you can earn Emmaus Sheffield 25p for every £1 you donate. Just choose “Yes” when asked.

You can find out more about our current appeals here.

Gift Aid

Gift Aid is a government initiative that allows donations given to charity to be worth more.

For every £1 donated to Emmaus Sheffield with Gift Aid, we can get an extra 25p from the government.

For every donated item sold in our shop with Gift Aid, we are able to claim an additional 25% of the sale price from the government.

This is all at no extra cost to you.

Gift Aid eligibility

To qualify for Gift Aid you must:

    • Be a UK taxpayer
    • Pay enough tax (Your donations will qualify as long as they’re not more than 4 times what you have paid in tax in that tax year)

Make a Gift Aid declaration

There are a few ways to make a Gift Aid declaration:

    • Tick the box when you donate money
    • Sign up in person when you donate your preloved items in our shop
    • Choose to Gift Aid when you arrange a collection

You can also complete a Gift Aid Declaration Form and either hand it in to our shop, or post it to us.

Payroll Giving

Payroll giving couldn’t be easier. Whether you are paid weekly, monthly or every 4 weeks, it is a tax-efficient way to make a regular donation to your chosen charity. It costs you less as your donations are paid before your tax is deducted.

For example, you pledge a regular gift of £10. The actual cost to you is £8, which will be deducted from your pay before tax. Emmaus Sheffield will receive the full £10 as the remaining £2 is paid by HM Revenue and Customs

Signing up is easy. Talk to your payroll department and let them know how much you want to donate.

If your employer doesn’t have a payroll giving scheme, encourage them to set one up. It’s simple, they just need to register with an approved Payroll Giving Agency (PGA), details of which can be found on the HMRC website

Sell for Charity

Do you sell items on eBay? Would you like to donate a percentage of your proceeds to charity?

eBay for Charity lets you do this. When creating a listing for the items you are selling, you can opt to sell for a cause. You decide how much of the selling price you’d like to give to charity, and how much you keep.

You get a discount on your final value fees equal to the percentage you donate. So, if you donate 25% of your selling price to charity, you get 25% discount on your eBay fees.

The steps are simple:

    • Look for “Donate a portion to charity” when you list your item, add your charity and pick your donations percentage
    • Sell and ship to customers as usual, there are no additional steps required
    • A few weeks after the sale, the donation is collected by PayPal Giving Fund and sent to your chosen charity.

The full How to Sell for Charity guide produced by eBay can be found here

Don’t forget to Gift Aid; simply tick the Gift Aid box when you first list an item for charity.
