A team of employees from Tarmac have taken part in a stamina-sapping Tough Mudder challenge to raise more than £4k for homelessness charity Emmaus Salford.
The 16-strong Tarmac team conquered Tough Mudder’s Midlands event to raise funds for Emmaus Salford – a charity that supports formerly homeless people by offering them a place to live and work. The Tough Mudder Midlands course included a series of tests, obstacles, and near impossible challenges over a 12 mile course.
Michael Murray, Contracts Manager at Tarmac and organiser of the fundraiser, said: “I am delighted that we were able to help such a great charity. The Tough Mudder was extremely challenging, but we made it through and it’s great to know the money raised will support people in finding homes and jobs. As well as Tarmac supporting us, a number of suppliers like Henry Williams & Sons, J Fishers & Sons and NMS Civil Engineering, to name a few, also donated money, so I’d like to thank them all for their help.”
Michael was keen to use the event as an opportunity for team building and to support Tarmac’s focus on training, skills and community engagement. After meeting with staff and companions at Emmaus Salford, Michael was keen to raise as much money as possible to help the charity to purchase a new van for their social enterprise operations.
Emmaus Salford supports formerly homeless people by offering a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to get back on their feet again. The charity runs two social enterprises on Seaford Road and Fitzwarren Street, selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, clothes and vintage wares.
Michael Fairclough, Deputy Community Leader at Emmaus Salford, said: “We are delighted with Mike and all his fellow Tough Mudders from Tarmac for such a terrific effort on our behalf. The money raised will make such a difference in the years to come as we seek to provide more help and opportunities for those who find themselves homeless. What a super legacy from such a great team effort.”
