Emmaus Salford is appealing for food and festive items to fill 250 Christmas hampers for local families and households in need.

Emmaus Salford runs Lucie’s Pantry, a social supermarket providing food and home essentials to members of the Salford community struggling to make ends meet through debt, illness or low income. We are in the process of preparing 250 Christmas hampers, one for each of our pantry members and other households in need.

Kev, an Emmaus Salford companion who runs Lucie’s Pantry, said: “Christmas is all about giving and we hope people think about those less fortunate at this time of year. We support many people and families who are really struggling and hopefully these hampers will ease a bit of pressure off their shoulders.”

Emmaus Salford supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home, meaningful work and individual support. Lucie’s Pantry is run by members of the Emmaus Salford community alongside local volunteers.

What items are needed?

We are appealing for donations of non-perishable food and goods which will make Christmas that bit more special for their members. Donations could include Christmas puddings, festive chocolates, biscuits, Christmas crackers, sweets, nice soap or anything above and beyond what is usually offered from the pantry.

Jackie Smith, Business Development Manager at Emmaus Salford, said: “We’ve prepared Christmas hampers for our Lucie’s Pantry members for the past few years, and they were really well received.

“Our pantry membership has increased this year and we also want to offer hampers to other households we have supported throughout the pandemic. Any hamper donations you can spare will make a huge difference to our appeal!”

You can drop-off donations to the Lucie’s Pantry hamper appeal at our Community Homestore, Monday to Saturday, 10am and 3pm. Donations will be accepted up until Friday 10 December.
