Community members from Emmaus Salford have teamed up to take part in a football programme organised by Foundation 92 at Salford City Football Club.

Every fortnight, a group of companions from Emmaus Salford join people from other local homeless charities to take part in 92 Shield, a new football, education and personal development programme delivered by Foundation 92.

Michael, companion at Emmaus Salford, said: “The 92 Shield sessions have been a really good laugh and helped us work together as a team. It has also been good for my fitness and a chance to meet new people.”

Emmaus Salford supports formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting. The charity operates shops at Fitzwarren Street and Seaford Road in Salford, as well as the Emmaus Emporium in Swinton.

Foundation 92, an independent charity set up by Salford City owners, The Class of ’92, supports people to improve their lives through sport. The charity has an emphasis on improving positive physical and mental wellbeing, and supporting people with a disability, people who are experiencing homelessness, or young people who have, or may be at risk of, committing offences.

Any homeless charities that work on the front-line in Salford or surrounding areas can access the 92 Shield. The sessions provide many benefits to individuals, with the long term aim of getting people into employment and housing.
