This Recycle Week 2017 (25 Sept – 1 Oct), Emmaus Salford is launching a new reuse workshop close to MediaCity.

Emmaus Salford supports 22 companions (formerly homeless people) by providing them with a stable home and meaningful work for as long as they need it. Our companions will run the new reuse workshop – working together to reuse, refurbish and recycle all of the items donated to Emmaus Salford.

We currently operate three social enterprises at Fitzwarren Street and Seaford Road in Salford, as well as a new Emporium in Swinton. The new reuse workshop will act as a central hub, serving the three charity shops with good quality furniture, household goods, clothes, textiles, books and vintage wares.

Rob, companion at Emmaus Salford, said: “I am really happy now as I have a big space so I can carefully check electrical goods before being sold to the public. This new space enables us to support our growing enterprises and really make a difference to reducing the amount of waste going to landfill which is brilliant!”

Each year, Recycle Week aims to encourage the public to see the value of recycling. Now in its 14th year Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling, with this year’s theme being, ‘Recycling – It’s Worth It!’

Simon Locke, Community Director at Emmaus Salford, said: “The new Emmaus Salford workshop will allow us to reuse, refurbish, upcycle and recycle more items then we have been able to. Not only will this reduce waste to landfill for Salford, it also provides a focus for the people we support and generates an income to sustain and grow the Emmaus Salford community.”
