Trustees’ Week, celebrated annually across the UK, is a time to acknowledge and appreciate the invaluable contributions of charity trustees. At Emmaus Salford, our trustees play a pivotal role in guiding our mission to support individuals affected by homelessness and social exclusion.

Meet Our Trustees

Our Board of Trustees comprises dedicated professionals from diverse backgrounds, each bringing unique expertise to our organization:

  • Louise Carney: Appointed in 2022, Louise holds a PhD and has a strong background in health and safety management within the higher education sector. She is a registered health and safety professional (GradIOSH, MISTR) and volunteers as a martial arts instructor.
  • Ian Cottam: Since 2020, Ian has contributed his extensive experience as a digital specialist. Recently retired after a 48-year career in academia and industry, primarily at The University of Manchester, he is a Chartered IT Practitioner (CITP, MBCS) with a master’s degree in computation.
  • Janet Davies: A founding trustee, Janet has decades of voluntary experience working with vulnerable adults and the homeless in Manchester. She has also mentored high school students facing emotional and social challenges.
  • Hilary Dunn (Chair of Trustees): Hilary is a retired solicitor and former Deputy District Judge with a focus on family law and child-related proceedings. She has been with Emmaus Salford since its inception, providing legal expertise and leadership.
  • Dr. Marie Griffiths: Marie is a Reader of Digital Technologies at Salford Business School, with significant experience in digital research projects. She has authored works on digital transformation and is an avid Manchester City fan.
  • Simon Hindley (Treasurer): Simon serves as our Treasurer, bringing financial oversight to our operations.
  • Erin Portsmouth (Secretary): A Chartered public relations practitioner, Erin is the Associate Director of Strategy at NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care. She joined our Board in 2017, contributing her expertise in governance, equality, and public affairs.
  • Kirsty Fitzsimons: With over a decade in frontline mental health and homelessness services, Kirsty is trained as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist and currently works as a senior caseworker in central government, investigating service failures within the NHS in England.
  • Lisa Clay: Our newly appointed trustee Lisa has experience working with us before as she’s supported the charity in her day to day job as Business Development Advisor at BOC. We’re so pleased to have her on board!
