Ahead of Recycle Week 2025, we’re releasing our latest reuse figures. They show our charity has saved the equivalent weight of six Ribble Steam Railway trains in household goods from going to waste over the past 12 months!!
An impressive 103 tonnes of donated furniture and household goods have been diverted landfill and the waste chain. The items have been resold at Emmaus Department Store or collected through its free bulky item pick up service.
All proceeds raised from the sale of these items, helps to sustain Emmaus Preston’s community home and the support given to 50 people who have experienced homelessness in Lancashire.
Stephen Buchanan, Chief Executive of Emmaus Preston, said: “Thank you to Emmaus supporters for donating your unwanted items to help this charity support people to turn lives around from homelessness.
“The items you donate, don’t just help the local environment, they help Emmaus raise the vital funds needed for a home, training and support for people to move to new homes, new jobs and a more fulfilled lives.”
Shoppers and donors can further boost their impact by completing a Gift Aid form in-store or during van collections. If you’re a UK taxpayer, the government’s Gift Aid scheme allows Emmaus Preston to claim an additional 25p for every £1 raised through the sale of donated items – at no extra cost to you.
Emmaus Preston is always in need of quality items. You can drop off smaller donations at Emmaus Department Store at Fishergate Shopping Centre, or book a free collection for larger items in good, saleable condition via the online form on the Emmaus Preston website.
