Our Emmaus community development work in Stoke-on-Trent began in late 2015 through our mentoring community at Emmaus Bolton, who set up 12 years ago and are kindly offering their decade of invaluable experience to our local team.
Local support is essential to the success of this project. After recruiting a ‘local champion’ in January 2016 to develop the project on the ground, we established a steering group in May 2016. This important group involved our Emmaus Bolton colleagues and representatives from key local organisations such as the North Staffs YMCA, Saltbox, and the Methodist Church.
A very important step on our journey to forming an Emmaus community in the area has been acquiring Emmaus Furniture Mine in September 2017, the largest furniture and household charity shop in North Staffordshire!
The next step on our exciting journey is establishing the residential half of Emmaus North Staffs – watch this space for more news on this!
