About this volunteer role

If you have a passion for DIY or work in a trade and are looking to support a local charity through using these skills then please get in touch. We are always looking for people to assist with site maintenance at our Emmaus shops in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, even for a few hours a week.

Main Duties:

  • Maintaining the warehouse & shop to a high standard
  • Following Health & Safety guidelines at all times, including safe use of tools
  • Helping with any of the following: repairs, painting & decorating, basic carpentry, building and plumbing works
  • Putting together donated furniture that arrives dismantled, i.e. a bunk bed or table
  • Assisting in the movement of small and large items around the site

Skills Required:

  • Good strength
  • Clear communication
  • Good adaptability & versatility

Experience Required:

  • No experience required
  • Experience working in a trade or with DIY would be useful

Time Commitment:

  • Any day between Monday – Saturday; any time between 9am-5pm
  • We ask our Maintenance Volunteers to volunteer at least once a week

Location:

• Based at our Furniture & Home Charity Warehouse.

Training, Support & Benefits:

• Manual Handling in-house training required
• Health & Safety in-house training required
• Further optional training & support provided on-site & online through iHasco
• All PPE required is supplied for this role
• Lunch is provided (sandwich, crisps & drink)
