To mark World Homeless Day, Emmaus North East is proud to celebrate our incredible achievements over the past year, having welcomed 51 formerly homeless people into our community. Of those, 24 have successfully moved on to live independently, and 4 have gone on to find meaningful careers. These milestones reflect our ongoing mission to provide people who have experienced homelessness with a safe home, the support they need, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

Emmaus North East not only offers a bed for the night but also an environment where individuals can regain their confidence, rediscover their potential, and take the steps needed to return to independent living and work.

Each companion – a person supported by us – has a story to tell. Among them is Andy 47, whose path to recovery highlights the transformative power of the support the charity provides.

Andy came to Emmaus North East after a series of life-altering challenges, including a severe motorbike accident after being hit by a drunk driver, and struggles with employment and housing. At Emmaus North East, Andy found the support he needed to rebuild his confidence and make a fresh start. Speaking about his experience, Andy said:

“I feel valued here, probably for the first time in my life. I feel like part of a family. I cannot fault it here. Emmaus North East has helped me find myself again, and I’d happily recommend anyone in need of support to reach out. It’s a first step to getting back to where you belong and achieving your potential.”

Support for Emmaus North East can come in many forms — donating money, goods, or time. Financial donations can contribute to essentials like food, wellbeing support, and training for companions.  Donating unwanted furniture, clothes, or household items to our social enterprise helps fund our vital work. Volunteering in our shops, warehouse, or community projects is another meaningful way to make an impact. Every effort directly aids people in rebuilding their lives.
