Emmaus is a homelessness charity with a difference. We don’t just give people a bed for the night; we offer a home, meaningful work, and a sense of belonging.

We are looking for a full-time Chef Patron to work within the Emmaus North East community house and kitchen in South Shields, under the supervision of the Deputy Community Manager.

The role will involve additional responsibilities such as the management of the day-to-day running of the kitchen and dining area, compliance with food hygiene and health & safety, and coaching companions to cook and manage on a budget.

Reporting to the Deputy Community Manager the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Good communication skills are required for dealing with colleagues, suppliers, and companions
  • Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, health and safety and food hygiene
  • Endurance as will often be on feet all day, sometimes with minimal opportunities for breaks
  • Experience in working with and relating to a diverse range of people

Terms of employment:

Salary: £20,971 per annum

Hours of work: 37 hours per week, flexibility required

Contract: Permanent

Pension: Pension scheme offered after completion of a 3 month probationary period

Holidays: 23 days per year plus 3 bank holidays

Training and development: Individually tailored induction, training, and development

Must be willing to travel to an occasional meeting with an overnight stay
