On Saturday 17 August, families, individuals and groups are invited to attend the annual Summer Celebration at West Park in South Shields where they can enjoy craft and food stalls, along with a variety of live entertainment in attendance at the event will be Timeless Theatre Academy, South Tyneside Scouts and The Idea Project.

John Harrison, Executive Lead at Emmaus North East said, “We are very pleased to be supporting the Friends of West Park’s Summer Celebration. As well as contributing to the cost of the event, we will also have a stall where we will be selling items made in our workshop by the formerly homeless people we support. It also offers a chance for residents to come and talk to us about the work that we do.

“Our local parks play an important role in our community; a place where people can come and create memories as well as enjoy its natural beauty. The Summer Celebration not only celebrates the amenities we have on our doorstep, but also provides the opportunity for local groups and organisations to showcase their talent.”

Mayor of South Tyneside, Cllr Norman Dick, Chair of Friends of West Park said, “The Friends of West Park volunteer group was created to ensure the longevity and protection of West Park. At 124 years old, with a Grade II listed bandstand in its centre, it is important to ensure that it remains a ‘breathing space’ for both adults and children to enjoy. The Summer Celebration collaboration with Emmaus North East provides an opportunity for residents to come together and celebrate, not only the park, but the people that make out community such a great place to live and work.”

The Summer celebration takes place from 10am – 3pm on Saturday 17 August at West Park in South Shields. Entry is free.
