This week, we gathered together with companions from the women’s house, creative practitioners, therapeutic facilitators, and supporters to mark the end of the Women’s Project pilot year.

Back in January, we embarked on a new project to support women who have experienced homelessness, domestic abuse, sexual violence and coercive control to rebuild their lives and build positive futures.

Based in a new separate house in our orchard, nine women joined the project, and after a period of settling in, they began therapeutic work, courses on recovery from domestic abuse and sexual violence and a range of holistic creative work.

This project has been life-changing for the women who joined us back in January. All nine women who came to Emmaus struggling with the impacts of trauma are now feeling more confident and empowered as they move on into work, training or independent or move-on training.

“The women’s community is one of the few places I’ve felt truly safe and understood. I’ve been able to process everything I’ve been through and look to the future.” – Leighann, Companion in the Women’s Project

As a staff team, throughout this pilot year, we have learnt so much about how we can support women and empower them to build positive, fulfilling futures. We’re looking forward to welcoming another nine women to the project in the new year.

A huge thanks to our incredible facilitators, creative practitioners, Emmaus UK, Insley Consulting and Your Own Place CIC for making this project happen!

We are now taking applications for the next year of the Women’s Project. If you or someone you know needs support to start rebuilding their life after experiencing homelessness and challenging live events – get in touch with us here.
