This weekend, we proudly welcomed guests, friends and supporters into our newly refurbished refectory for our first refectory luncheon.

The refectory project which began in September 2023, has been generously supported by The National Heritage Lottery Fund, enabling us to transform the dilapidated 19th century refectory into a new dining space for our visitors and future Bed and Breakfast guests.

The space dates back to 1887 and is where the Sisters of All Hallows Community would dine and gather at the beginning and end of each day. During our extensive renovations, we were thrilled to discover an 1876 heating system which heated the room via an underground stove in the middle of the floor. This heating system is now uncovered and on-display for all our visitors to appreciate.

The refectory which will be used as an event space, will now provide companions with new tangible work opportunities in hospitality and catering. At our launch event we served our guests a 4-course meal all created & served by companions. Our guests were invited to join us on a tour of our site & visit our heritage exhibition.

We’re so excited to share this area of our amazing site with visitors – keep an eye out for future events on our social media.

A huge thank you to The National Heritage Lottery Fund and National Lottery Players for this incredible support.
