We are looking for an Independent Heritage Project Evaluator to work with us for 15 days over a nine month period. You must have compassion towards homelessness combined with a passion for heritage.

About Emmaus

Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney (ENW) is a secular organisation supporting up to 32 men and women who have experienced homelessness. We provide a home for as long as needed and meaningful work in our social enterprises. The charity has an 87-year lease and 2.5 acres at the All Hallows site and has been operating from this site in Ditchingham for 12 years.

Residents (known as companions) are offered bed and board along with a holistic package of support and skills training in exchange for 40 hours p/w work within the social enterprises. Companions can undertake NVQs, degree apprenticeships, travel to other international Emmaus communities, learn to drive and receive bespoke therapies where needed. Companions have free gym membership, 3 meals per day and a host of other benefits. Many individuals who come to Emmaus have experienced multiple traumas, may be in recovery from addictions, have undiagnosed mental health needs or may be leaving prison or situations of domestic violence.

About the role

The National Lottery Heritage fund has granted Emmaus Norfolk and Waveney funding to restore the refectory of our Grade2 listed convent building in order to reopen as a dining room servicing the public visiting our beautiful second-hand retail showrooms, people staying at our unique bed & breakfast in the former nuns’ cells, as well as our residents and staff.

This project will protect and restore part of a heritage building which is at risk of dilapidation, at the same time enabling the commencement of a new social enterprise, supporting skills building for vulnerable adults who have experienced homelessness. This in turn will generate an income to help to support more people.

Alongside this is the opportunity to explore the rich heritage of this building which was the home of the Community of All Hallows, an order of Anglican nuns, now dispersed and few in number.
