Emmaus UK launches Second Hand Santa Christmas Challenge

reindders

Emmaus UK has launched its Second Hand Santa challenge with some of the UKs top upcycling, thrift and fashion bloggers sharing their bespoke creations to show people how to make the most of Christmas on a budget.

In the lead-up to Christmas the group of bloggers including Cassie Fairy, RelovedMCR, Paloma in Disguise, Jay & Co and Kecks Clothing will share their creations using second-hand items found in Emmaus charity shops throughout the UK.

Each week will cover a different theme featuring Christmas decorations in week one, Christmas jumpers and party outfits in week two and Christmas gifts in week three.

Emmaus staff and companions (formerly homeless people) across the country will also be sharing their hints, tips and creations on social media to encourage people to get involved and visit their local Emmaus shop for a Christmas bargain.

Cassie Fairy, a UK Blog Awards winner taking part in the challenge, said, “I regularly shop at Emmaus to kit out my home and wardrobe with low-cost yet great-quality furniture, homewares and clothing. Most of my thrifty upcycling projects started life as a charity shop find, proving that you needn't spend a fortune on new goods and can get the look for less.”

Week-one will feature:
Monday – Claire Potter Design, Brighton
Tuesday – Emmaus Merseyside Craft Group
Wednesday – Anna Simmonds, Crafting Fingers, Leeds
Thursday – Cassie Fairy, Cassiefairy, Ipswich
Friday – Mossley Upcycling Group, Manchester

All money raised in Emmaus charity shops goes directly back into running of each Emmaus community and supporting companions to rebuild their self-esteem and move on with their lives.

There are currently 29 Emmaus communities across the country, supporting more than 800 companions in the UK. In addition there are four Emmaus groups, all of which are working towards setting up an Emmaus community in their area. Emmaus aims to offer 1,000 companion places by 2020.

Up for the challenge too? Visit here to find your local Emmaus shop and pick up some Christmas bargains.
