It was an early rise last Sunday for 15 members of our community who attended the Emmaus Assembly 2024 at the University of Warwick in Coventry.
Emmaus Mossley companions, volunteers, trustees and staff attended the two-day event which brings together people from Emmaus communities and groups across the UK. On Sunday 6 and Monday 7 October, our team joined more than 200 attendees, taking part in talks, workshops and networking based around this year’s Assembly theme – ‘the power of partnerships’.
The event also included an annual awards ceremony to celebrate the achievements of people from across the Emmaus movement. Huge congratulations to Gary, who won the Community Hero Award, as well as Kobe and David, who achieved Highly Commended certificates in their respective categories.
Commenting on his award, Gary said: “I didn’t know I had been nominated for this award and when the nominations were announced, I was totally taken aback. Before I knew it, they announced I had won the award and I was gobsmacked but so proud.”
Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness by providing them with a home, work opportunities, companionship and individual support. We are one of over 30 Emmaus communities and groups in the UK and part of a worldwide movement of more than 400 Emmaus groups.
