Emmaus Mossley is appealing for help during the current coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis to ensure our support of formerly homeless people continues.

Our charity provides a home, work and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. The temporary closure of the Emmaus Mossley Secondhand Superstore due to the coronavirus lockdown poses a significant risk to our charity.

Gassy, one of the people supported by Emmaus Mossley, said: “Joining the Emmaus Mossley community was the best thing I ever did. There’s a lot of satisfaction, a peace of mind, a sense of security and wellbeing.

“If it wasn’t for the support group that’s involved with this charity I don’t know where I’d be. It is a massive support group – you become a companion and gain friends but more than that, it’s like having an extended family.”

Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home, meaningful work and support for as long as they need it. We operate a large social enterprise, selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, electrical items, clothes and vintage wares.

The majority of the funds we need to survive are generated through the Secondhand Superstore. Without that income, Emmaus Mossley is facing a shortfall and the longer the closure continues, the more difficult the situation becomes.

Alison Hill, Director at Emmaus Mossley, said: “Every person and household has been affected by the coronavirus lockdown and Emmaus Mossley is no different. Despite our Secondhand Superstore being closed, we’re doing all we can to keep our residents safe, supported and active.

“We know it’s really tough for everyone, but any gift you can spare will help us get through this difficult time. A donation from you will help us continue our vital work during the current emergency and hopefully long into the future.”
