Emmaus Mossley has received a funding boost thanks to the latest Co-op Local Community Fund payout to good causes.
On Tuesday 21 December, we received a cheque for £2,852 from our local branch, Co-op Mossley. The funding will be used to carry out improvements to the Emmaus Mossley community garden, improving the space for people supported by our charity.
Alison Hill, Director of Emmaus Mossley, said: “The support we have received from Co-op and their members is fantastic. The funds raised will help us to improve our garden, creating a better space for relaxation, biodiversity, food growing and social interaction. On behalf of everyone at Emmaus Mossley, sincere thanks to Co-op and all the local members who selected our cause.”
Emmaus Mossley supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting. From our social enterprise in Mossley, we sell donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, clothing, bric-a-brac and vintage wares.
In the past five years, Co-op members have raised £100 million for local communities, causes and charity partners. Emmaus Mossley is one of more than 25,000 causes across the UK supported by the Co-op Local Community Fund since 2016.
Sian Birch, Co-op Member Pioneer, said: “It’s been a pleasure bringing the Coop in Mossley and Emmaus together to make a positive difference. Visiting the community garden last summer after lockdown was lifted, I could already start to see the benefit the Local Community Fund would be to the Emmaus companions.”
