Emmaus Merseyside has used Volunteers’ Week 2024 (3-10 June) to appeal for new volunteers to support our charity’s operations in Sefton.

Emmaus Merseyside is an award-winning charity that provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. We’re appealing for new volunteers and get involved within our community home, garden and Charity Superstore.

Colette, a volunteer who helps within our community garden said:  said: “It’s not just the plants that are growing here, it’s me as well. I’ve met really interesting people and it’s increased my knowledge and my contacts.

“What I’d like to get across is how much value volunteering adds to your life – how much you learn, how much your sleep benefits, your appetite – it’s just a totally enhancing experience.

“If you’re thinking about volunteering, just summon up the courage and go do it. You can always walk away if it’s not for you but not many people do that because it’s such a supportive atmosphere.”

While at Emmaus, people are given the opportunity for a fresh start, gaining skills and work experience alongside training and personal development. Our current range of volunteer roles includes trustee, cook, creative facilitator, gardener, handyperson, retail assistant, social media assistant and van driver.

2024 is the 40th anniversary of Volunteers’ Week and Emmaus Merseyside is one of thousands of charities and voluntary organisations celebrating with their supporters. Volunteers’ Week is a chance to recognise, celebrate and thank the UK’s volunteers for all they contribute to local communities, the voluntary sector, and society as a whole.

Marc Bamber, Chief Operating Officer at Emmaus Merseyside, said: “This Volunteers’ Week we showed our gratitude to the amazing team of people who volunteer at our charity and are appealing for new volunteers to get involved. Volunteering with Emmaus is a great way to enhance your skills and experience, meet new people, have fun and give back to support people who have experienced homelessness.”
