A group of eight young people taking part in the Prince’s Trust Team programme with Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service have completed a project to support Emmaus Merseyside.
The team from Bootle visited our community on 23 July to help with a garden ornament pottery project. The visit was part of the Prince’s Trust Team programme, a 12-week personal development course helping young people gain qualifications, skills, confidence, and work experience.
The young people created more than 40 garden ornaments using moulds and a kiln, to be sold at the Emmaus Merseyside Charity Superstore. Proceeds from the sale of these items will go towards supporting our community of formerly homeless people.
Marie Morgan, Prince’s Trust Team Leader at Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service, said: “My Bootle 44 Team thoroughly enjoyed their work with Emmaus Merseyside. They got to engage with people with varied life experiences.
“My students found this extremely rewarding and even one student said she was inspired by the residents of Emmaus. We would like to thank the Emmaus community for making us feel so welcome and looking after us, ensuring our student’s day was one they will never forget. We look forward to more partnership working in the future.”
Emmaus Merseyside is an award-winning charity that provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. Our charity has a 28-bedroom community building in Seaforth where people are given a home for as long as they need it.
Marc Bamber, Chief Operating Officer at Emmaus Merseyside, said: “It was great to welcome the Prince’s Trust Team to our community and for them to get involved in activities to directly support our work. The team of young people were able to meet our community members and learn more about social enterprise activity. We hope the team enjoyed their visit and wish them all well for the remainder of their course.”
