Our Chatham shop is now open again, but we’re doing things a little differently.  Please see changes to the way we work below.  If you have any further questions, please email us at enquiries@emmausmedway.org or give us a bell on 01634 827698

Are your opening hours the same?

Our hours have changed. We are now open 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Saturday to ensure we have enough time to clean the shop at the start and end of every day.

Is it safe to visit your shop?

The shop has been thoroughly deep cleaned and we have introduced measures to follow the government’s COVID-19 retail guidelines to keep your visit as safe as possible. These include

  • 72-hour quarantine of all donated goods in a separate building
  • hand sanitiser available at the door
  • signage and floor markings to maintain social distancing
  • a limit to customers in the store at any one time
  • regular cleaning of frequently touched surfaces like door handles

How do you protect your shop team?

Our team live in the same household, so they can work within 2m of each other. We provide hand sanitiser and PPE (gloves and visors) for the staff and companions that have contact with the public in the shop or on our van. We’ve cut the number of staff in our vans too.

Do I need to wear a face-covering /gloves when I visit?

Gloves are not required, but per government advice, you will need to wear a mask in the shop (unless you  are exempt).

Will I need to queue to visit your shop?

You might need to queue as we’re limiting the number of customers inside to 8 at any one time.

Can I visit your shop with my family?

Yes, but please remember that we’re be limiting the number of customers in our shop to 8 at any one time and if you have children with you, you will be responsible for them during your visit.

Can I pay with cash at your store?

Ideally, we’d like you to pay on a card, but we get that’s not always possible, so yes, we will accept cash if need be.

Can I drop off donations at the shop?

Not at the moment. Please don’t leave donations outside the shop at any time.

Are there any changes to donations you can accept?

As we need to quarantine donations, we have reduced storage space, so for the time being, we are only accepting

  • Furniture, with the exception wall units, beds without mattresses, mattresses without beds, tables without chairs or soft furnishings without a fire label
  • Kitchen appliances, including fridge freezers, washing machines (no gas appliances)
  • Large electricals, including TVs, DVD players, stereos, sewing machines
  • Exercise equipment, including bikes

Call 01634 827698 to find out if we can accept your donation and to arrange a safe, contact-free collection.

So will you collect my donation?

If we can accept it, yes.  We’ve implemented new measures for collections to ensure the safety of our customers and van crew. These include using PPE, maintaining social distancing, and making contact-free collections.  What this means is we’ll collect donations from outside your home, not inside. It wouldn’t be safe for our van crew or for you if we went inside.  When you arrange your collection, you’ll be given a collection timeframe, and your items will need to be outside your home at the start of that period. Please clean your items before you put them out for collection. We’re obviously very grateful for your generous support, but our crew do retain the right to reject anything they don’t think we can sell.

What will you do with donated items?

All items donated to us will now be isolated in a separate building for 72 hours as per guidelines. After this, they will be sorted, priced, and put in the shop.

Are you still doing deliveries?

Yes. We’ve implemented new measures for deliveries to ensure the safety of our customers and van crew. These include using PPE, maintaining social distancing, and making contact-free collections. What this means is we’ll drop off your items outside your home, not inside. It wouldn’t be safe for our van crew or for you if we went inside.
