Van Appeal: Help us buy a new charity van

Our van is the lifeblood of our Hinckley-based homelessness charity, but after more than 10 years it’s spending more time in the garage than on the road. Every donation helps us support people to move on and rebuild their lives.

Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland has taken the difficult decision to make changes to how we currently run the charity so that we can protect its future.

Like many charities, we have faced rising costs and reduced income in recent years, particularly since the COVID pandemic and during the cost-of-living crisis. Unfortunately, it has become clear that our current way of operating is no longer financially sustainable. Over the past few months, we have carefully explored all the options available to us. We believe we need to act now to protect the future of the charity.

This means we will not be renewing the lease on our rented accommodation building when it ends in September 2026. Everyone currently living with us (known as companions) will be supported into safe and secure accommodation as part of this transition. Each person will continue to receive individual support to help them plan their next steps.

We will also be putting our Emporium charity shop up for sale. The shop will remain open while it is on the market, and all money raised will continue to support the people currently living with us and help secure the future of the charity.

Although our accommodation and the Emporium will eventually close, Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland will continue as a charity. Without making changes, the charity would not be able to continue in the long term.

We are proud of our companions, past and present, and grateful to our staff, volunteers, trustees, partners and supporters. Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland is built on their dedication.

We encourage our local community to keep shopping with us, donating goods and working alongside us. Together, we can move towards the next chapter of Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland.

We will share further updates as plans develop. Thank you for your continued support.
