An Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland companion has just completed the Virtual London Marathon!
Kris, who has previously raised funds for Emmaus in running events, took on this challenge back in 2020, to raise even more money for the charity which has helped him. The 2020 event was cancelled, but Kris stuck with it and this year used the official Virtual Marathon app to track his progress as he ran around Hinckley on Sunday 3 October 2021.
Speaking about his achievement, having completed the run, Kris said: “Today ended a two year journey for me. It’s my first marathon and I’m so happy. I had a serious mental health episode four months ago, which stopped me training as much as I had planned, but I stepped up and did it anyway! It was so hard and I’m very sore now, but it was worth it.”
“I ran the marathon for Emmaus because the charity means a lot to me. Emmaus helps people who have been affected by homelessness. They offer accommodation and a wide range of support. I’m currently being supported by Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland and I’ve had the opportunity to learn new skills and get the help I need. I wanted to give something back by taking on this challenge. Please sponsor me – every donation will make a difference.”
