Our Hinckley-based charity is seeking someone to offer support and guidance to people who have experienced homelessness, helping them to find a positive way to move forward with their lives.
Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland is a non-religious organisation offering people who have experienced or been at risk of homelessness (known as companions) an opportunity to work with us to rebuild their lives.
Unlike many homelessness charities, we don’t just offer companions a bed for the night. Instead we offer a home for as long as someone needs it, as well as meaningful work in a social enterprise. This combination of a stable home and having something to do every day helps to restore lost self-esteem and gives companions the time and space to be able to deal with any problems they may have experienced in the past.
Our Support Officer is responsible for assisting companions with their welfare and wellbeing. This involves carrying out risk assessments, inductions and support sessions, liaising with our social enterprise (the Emporium charity shop) to ensure companions are gaining meaningful training and development in their work, as well as building relationships with agencies in the area to provide specialist help.
This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled support worker, who has a ‘can-do’ attitude and really wants to make a difference.
