Dawn, our Director, and one of the people we support (known as companions) recently had the privilege of speaking at Loughborough University, where they were guests at a lecture for students in the Crime and Social Welfare module.

The event provided an opportunity to share the work we do at Emmaus and the impact our charity has on those we support.

Dr Laura Valadez-Martinez, Senior Lecturer in Social Policy at Loughborough University, spoke highly of the session: “Emmaus visited our students in the Crime and Social Welfare module. Their talk was eye-opening, engaging, and informative. The students really enjoyed their visit and have commented on how much they learned.”

During the session, our companion shared his personal journey, detailing life before Emmaus and how the support, home, training, and work opportunities we provide have helped him rebuild his life. The students engaged eagerly in a Q&A session, with many asking thoughtful questions about homelessness and our charity’s approach.

We’d like to extend our thanks to Loughborough University for the opportunity to come and talk about the important work we do. It’s always a privilege to partner with local educational institutions to help raise awareness of homelessness and the support available to those who need it.

We look forward to future opportunities to collaborate and share more about our work in the local community.
