This week we are catching up with Loren who is the Acting Business Manager here at Emmaus Lambeth. She was born in Minas Gerais, Brazil, but grew up in Lisbon, Portugal. At university she studied Communications and Culture at the University of Lisbon.  Before coming to London in 2017 to work for Emmaus Lambeth, she spent a period of time in the hospitality sector in Ireland.

Loren is primarily responsible for the running of the retail shops located in Lambeth, plus the Emergency Support Scheme (ESS) based out of Brixton. She has a team of staff, plus our Companions, to supervise, train and motivate on a daily basis. She has to ensure that the weekly rota meets the needs of the business, and to be flexible enough to deal with any unforeseen retail shop cover needs that may arise from day to day. Customer service is key, and Loren draws upon her previous retail experience in the supermarket and fast food sectors.

Loren very much enjoys her role here at Emmaus, her first one in the charity shop retail sector. Working alongside our Companions (as our residents are known), she has often seen a clear development in their confidence and communications skills. Loren will be part of the staff team that will be implementing on-site NVQ qualifications in customer service, warehousing and storage etc, for Companions later this year.

Outside of Emmaus, Loren enjoys singing in her church and listening to a variety of music in her spare time. She likes to stay active, so attends the gym regularly, and enjoys socialising with friends. At home, Loren likes to cook a mixture of Brazilian/Portuguese food.

Thanks to Loren for taking time out to talk to us, and please come down to our shops in Lambeth to see what she and the team have done to enhance the retail experience for customers!
