This International Women’s Day we want to recognise the incredible women we see across our federation. 

In 2020, we supported 135 women on their journey out of homelessness, many of whom faced difficult circumstances but overcame challenges and obstacles to get to where they are today. 

However, there is still more to be done to support women who are experiencing homelessness. On a single night in autumn 2020, 377 women were estimated to be sleeping rough in England, a worrying figure considering the dangers women face on the streets. 

The effects of the COVID-19 crisis are also predicted to disproportionately affect women. Research by McKinsey has shown that women’s job losses due to COVID-19 are already 1.8 times greater than men’s globally. 

That’s why we will continue to support and champion women throughout 2021 and beyond. Read the stories of some of the incredible women involved with Emmaus below:
