Emmaus Hull & East Riding is a vibrant and growing charity focused on supporting people affected by homelessness and poverty. Emmaus doesn’t just provide a bed for the night. We offer a home and a longer-term package of tailored support to help people move on from homelessness for good. Emmaus Hull & East Riding is part of the national Emmaus federation and a wider international Emmaus movement.

Our Board of Trustees is seeking to appoint a new Chair of Trustees with suitable experience and expertise in leadership, organisational development and governance. We are particularly interested in recruiting someone who can provide strategic leadership and support, ensuring our charity develops to meet the needs of the people we support. We welcome expressions of interest and applications from people of all backgrounds and beliefs and are keen to broaden the diversity of our Board of Trustees.

 

Main duties

  • Attend and lead trustee meetings
  • Provide professional advice and support to our management team
  • Maintain oversight of the charity’s activities
  • Visit and support our senior staff and management team
  • Act as local ambassador for Emmaus Hull & East Riding.

Skills and experience needed

  • Experience within a leadership or governance role
  • High level of personal commitment to helping people affected by homelessness
  • Good people skills and experience leading a team
  • Connections to Hull and East Yorkshire; desire to see the area thrive in the future
  • Highly motivated, enthusiastic and a positive, can-do attitude
  • Desirable: Awareness of charity and/or social enterprise governance

Time commitment

The Emmaus Hull & East Riding Board of Trustees meets every second month and there are Board Committees which meet at other times. We are looking for a new Chair of Trustees who can offer a time commitment of at least one day per month.
