Emmaus Hull & East Riding has launched a 9th birthday match-funding appeal to raise vital funds to support people who have experienced homelessness.

Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, training, work opportunities and individual support to people who have experienced homelessness. We’re a finalist in the Aviva UK Broker Community Fund, meaning that all donations made in the next few weeks will be matched by Aviva.

Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “Thanks to a nomination from Ravenhall Risk Solutions, our charity is set to benefit from the Aviva UK Broker Community Fund. For our 9th birthday, we are appealing for people to gift us a donation via the Aviva Community Fund website so that all donations are doubled.

“To provide a home and tailored support to 30 people, our charity needs to raise over £35k each month to pay for rent, bills, food and support costs. The majority of our income is raised in our charity shops, but with costs constantly rising, it’s an ongoing challenge to balance the books alongside delivering the care and support our residents deserve.”

A home and hope for the future

People supported at our Emmaus community in Hull, known as companions, are provided with opportunities to gain skills, training, confidence, and new experiences. In addition to our residential community, we also deliver an outreach service in the East Riding, providing direct support to people who are street homeless.

In 2024, Emmaus Hull & East Riding provided support to 134 people on their journey away from homelessness. Throughout last year, our support staff helped 10 people into employment and supported 42 people to move-on into their own accommodation.

Peter, one of the people supported at Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “There is a good togetherness in this Emmaus community. We do look out for each other and care – just like a big family. I love waking up in the mornings and going down to see these people. I miss not seeing the people who have moved-on, because you start building up those relationships and friendships – it’s amazing.”

The Emmaus Hull & East Riding 9th birthday appeal runs until 12pm on Wednesday 26 March, during which time all donations up to £250 per person are doubled via the Aviva Community Fund.
