Choppy, a four-legged companion of one of our residents, has received some care and support from local charity RSPCA Hull & East Riding.
The charity kindly responded to our appeal to help Choppy when she needed veterinary treatment. Choppy lives with us here at The Orchard – our residential community in Hull – and is a much-loved member of our community.
Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, tailored support, training and work opportunities to people who have experienced homelessness. We are one of only a handful of homelessness organisations that welcome and give support to people who have pets.
Choppy joined us six months ago with one of our current residents and has helped her through some very difficult times whilst they were both experiencing street homelessness. Choppy continues to be a pillar of support, helping with the mental well-being of many of the 30 companions who live at The Orchard.
Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding said: “We’re extremely grateful to the RSPCA team for the care and kind support they have given to Choppy in her time of need. She’s such a lovable dog and a big part of our community.
“Linking up with another local charity has been great and opened up some new opportunities for the people we support. Two Emmaus companions have applied to become volunteers at the Animal Welfare Centre and more are interested in applying too.”
RSPCA Hull & East Riding animal care centre is located on Clough Road in Hull and their team rehabilitate and rehome cats and dogs. The charity aims to transform the lives of animals in need, work with the community, educate and advise, and improve the quality of life for all kinds.
Fred Owen, CEO at RSPCA Hull and East Riding said: “As a charity, we are committed to reliving the suffering of animals in the area and were therefore delighted to help in Choppy’s recovery. She is a family member and has helped her owner through thick and thin. It is great that through a simple act of kindness, we were able to help Choppy and her owner to live a fulfilled and happy life.”
With the donations received from Emmaus supporters, we will be getting Choppy a new bed, new coat, food supplies and dog treats.
